THE BENEFITS OF H.I.I.T

HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING

HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is a fat-blasting workout that alternates between intense bursts of activity, followed by an active-resting period for a fixed period of time. One example of a HIIT Workout would be to give maximum effort for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds rest.

There are many benefits to this type of training and some of my favorites are burning fat, losing weight and increasing your metabolism.

HIIT Burns More Fat

Not only will you burn more calories during a HIIT workout, you’ll continue to burn more fat and calories 24 hours after your workout.

HIIT Helps You Lose Weight

HIIT workouts allow you to target weight loss from fat you have stored in your body versus going after your hard-earned muscle.

HIIT Boosts Your Metabolism

HIIT stimulates production of human growth hormone (HGH) by up to 450 percent during the 24 hours after you finish your workout. HGH is responsible for increased caloric burn and slows down the aging process, making you younger inside and out! During a HIIT workout you consume more oxygen than normal.  This increase in oxygen intake leads to an increase of your metabolization.  Therefore you can keep burning calories even after you are done working out!

The best part is you can achieve amazing results in a single workout. One student burned over 750 calories in class! How much will you burn?

HIIT Is Good For Your Heart

HIIT workouts make it easier for you to get your body into an anaerobic state (you know when you feel breathless and your heart races) this is actually good for heart health.  The reason why it is easier to get there in a HIIT workout is because of the short bursts of energy followed by the limited rest.

The best part about a HIIT workout is that is can be done almost anywhere with any equipment.

At Fortis Fitness & YOGALUX we offer 2 specific types of HIIT classes our LUX HIIT and LUX HIIT Amped.  LUX HIIT is taught in our studio and utilizes light hand weights and plyometric moves with a 20 second working set followed by a 10 second rest switching back and forth between 2 exercises for a series of 4 rounds.  After the completion of this set a new series of 2 exercises is alternated between for another 4 rounds.  Our LUX HIIT Amped format utilizes Indoor Cycling Bikes for a series of sprints both in the saddle and out.  This is followed by a series of alternating exercises for 1 minute in length that utilizes our TRX resistance straps and indoor turf area.
