Dear Fortis Family,
Fortis Fitness & YOGALUX is deeply committed to the health and safety of all of our members/guests, employees, and children in KidFit. We understand you may have concerns regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and we want you to know that we are taking it very seriously. We are closely monitoring the situation through updates from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and state and county health departments to ensure that we are doing all we can to protect our Fortis Family. While there have been no reported cases of anyone related to Fortis Fitness & YOGALUX, nor have there been any reported cases in Carlsbad, we believe it is our duty to act with an abundance of caution. Our goal is to maintain as much normalcy as possible during these times and we thank you for your understanding.
As you know, we have always taken great pride in the cleanliness and sanitation of our facility, and that will only increase as we navigate these challenging circumstances. Our cleaning crew has always used a safe, multi-surface disinfectant that, among other things, includes a virucide. We have added additional deep cleaning/disinfecting of all touch points throughout the facility to our already frequent schedule, as well as taking the following extra precautions:
We will be suspending the use of blocks, straps, yoga blankets, bolsters, and any other prop at this time. We do clean our props regularly, but to err on the safe side we will be suspending the use of those items for now. Please feel free to bring your own! Effective immediately, our LUX Restorative class will be switching to LUX Yin Yoga so that props will not be necessary.
Effective immediately, we will be suspending hands-on adjustments and assists at this time. Obviously, our instructors will continue to attentively and actively give visual and verbal cues.
We will continue to offer loaner mats, which we will continue to disinfect after each use, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own. We will also be switching to a stronger disinfectant to clean our loaner mats, so if you are sensitive to cleansing agents, please bring your own mat to class. Finally, please understand that there may come a point in which we will suspend use of loaner mats if we feel it is in the best interest of our clients.
Hand and Shower Towels
At this time we will continue towel service as normal, but again, please understand that there may come a point in which we will suspend our towel service if we feel it is in the best interest of our clients.
Shoes / Sandals
We ask that you bring shoes to wear prior to entering and immediately upon exiting the studios. There will be no changes to the in-studio experience regarding being barefoot. If you would like to wear shoes or grip socks in the studio you can at your own discretion so long as it does not create a distraction. Please be mindful to wear shoes throughout the rest of the facility.
Our floors are regularly cleaned after each class and deep cleaned by our janitorial company at night. We are adding an additional disinfecting solution to our steam cleaner that will be used when cleaning the floors after each class. Please understand that there may be a slight smell after cleaning, but we will open the windows to help to air out before the next class as much as it can.
Yoga-Sculpt, Barre, HIIT, Agility Barre
Weights will continue to be used in class. We will increase our frequency of cleaning and sanitizing. There will also be paper towels and disinfecting spray in the studios and by the weights if you would like to wipe the weights before and after each use.
Weights and Equipment
Wipe down equipment after use. Whether you are taking class or using open gym, we ask that you use the provided wipes to clean (weights, mats, benches, etc.). We will also provide additional cleaning spray bottles and paper towels on the turf to clean equipment if you would like to use that instead of the wipes. The turf was just disinfected this past weekend and we will continue to do so on a regular basis. We have also scheduled additional, more frequent, deep cleanings of all touch points throughout the turf and weight area as well.
Close toed shoes must be worn at all times on the turf. If you are working with our physical therapist or personal trainers and required to have your shoes off, please leave your socks on and limit the space you are using in the area. Make sure to put shoes back on immediately after your session has concluded.
Closed Container Bottles Only
This has been a long-standing policy but will now be strictly enforced.
It has long been our policy to not allow sick children into our KidFit Childcare, and this will be strictly enforced. Any child showing signs of a cough, cold or other illness will not be permitted. Please be understanding if a staff member asks that you take your child home, as they only have the health and safety of others in mind.
We will require that all parents dropping their children off take them to the restroom and wash their hands thoroughly before they will be permitted into KidFit. Hand sanitizer can be used in addition to but cannot be utilized in lieu of washing hands.
No Outside Toys
This has long been our policy and we will now have to strictly enforce it. We understand this can be an issue with some children, but please try to talk to them about it before coming in to KidFit. As always, we make sure to sanitize all the toys and surfaces in KidFit throughout the day and will continue to do so.
No Food or Water Permitted
We are amending our policy of allowing water bottles in KidFit for now as to prevent the potential for a child grabbing the wrong bottle. If children become thirsty while in KidFit, a staff member will escort them to the water fountain, which will be disinfected throughout the day.
Our standing policy of wearing close toed shoes in KidFit will be strictly enforced.
Toilet Seat Covers
We encourage the use of our provided toilet seat covers.
We regularly sanitize and clean our locker room floors. You are welcome to wear shower shoes or sandals at your own discretion.
Towels on Floor
Please ensure that all of your used towels go into the designated hamper. This ensures we can use our sanitary cleaning procedures properly to complete their cleaning and no one else needs to come in contact with them.
Staffing / Instructors
We are encouraging any of our staff / trainers / and instructors to stay home if they are feeling or showing any signs of illness. We want to thank you in advance for your flexibility if we have to adjust, change, or even cancel classes on our regular schedule because of this. We take pride in running the schedule that we put out, but in this special case we may need to take these extra measures. Our goal is to ensure the health and safety of all of our team, as well as make you feel as comfortable as possible in our facility. If we do have an instance where a class needs to be cancelled, please know that you are more than welcome to practice in the studio or workout in the gym. In the same respect, there may also be a time when we may have to close KidFit childcare due to staffing, and we will do our best to notify in a timely manner. One way to ensure quick notification is to always have a reservation for your child, this way we can immediately contact those who are scheduled to attend KidFit if we cannot staff appropriately.
Stay Home If Feeling Unwell
If you or your child is not feeling well, it is best to stay home. We do offer memberships suspensions and will be more flexible with our policies to accommodate any needs.
We ask that you limit your touching of other members and staff. Fist bumps, elbow taps etc. are a fun new way to greet one another.
Additional Measures You Can Take:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds.
- Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Bring your own personal mat and/or towel instead of borrowing a loaner.
- Clean your own mat/props after each use with an antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiviral cleaning agent.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
- Clean all equipment before and after each workout with wipes or provided cleaning spray and paper towels.
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
- Staying away from work, school, or the gym or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.
This is an ever-evolving situation, we will do our best to communicate any updates on policies, procedures, and practices and we thank you in advance for your understanding and trusting us.
Let’s all work together to make sure our Fortis Family is healthy and happy!
